Full of twists and turns, Everything You Want Me to Be reconstructs a year in the life of a dangerously mesmerizing young woman, during which a small town's darkest secrets come to the forefront, and she inches closer and closer to her death.

High school senior Hattie Hoffman has spent her whole life playing many parts the good student, the good daughter, the good citizen. When she's found brutally stabbed to death on the opening night of her high school play, the tragedy rips through the fabric of her small-town community. Local sheriff Del Goodman, a family friend of the Hoffmans, vows to find her killer, but trying to solve her murder yields more questions than answers. It seems that Hattie's acting talents ran far beyond the stage.

Told from three points of view - Del, Hattie, and the new English teacher whose marriage is crumbling - Everything You Want Me to Be weaves the story of Hattie's last school year and the events that drew her ever closer to her death.

Evocative and razor sharp, Everything You Want Me to Be challenges you to test the lines between innocence and culpability, identity and deception. Does love lead to self-discovery - or destruction?

Everything You Want Me to Be A Thriller (Audible Audio Edition) Mindy Mejia Caitlin Thorburn John Moraitis Jeff Harding Simon Schuster Audio Books

Gripping, intense, and unforgettable. This book had me glued to the pages from the very beginning and I don’t think I will forget it any time soon. Mindy Mejia has written a twisted tale the blurs the lines of love and hate, truth and deceit, and innocence and guilt. It is utterly unpredictable, and if you feel like you have “cracked the case”, think again. This book has an extremely strong plot, and characters (while you may relate to them on a personal level) are sure to leave an imprint in your mind long after reading. This my friends, is pure gold in the literary world and I highly recommend it. Truth be told, I think it’s going to be one of my favorite books of the year. That is simply how good it is.

Now, many people who review books will point out the plot points so that readers can get a better understanding of the book so that they know what they are getting into before purchasing it. This is fine, and I do it myself in reviews. But with this book, I simply cannot because it will give away too much of the book and I really think readers will benefit more if they go into this one blind (or by just reading the synopsis). What I will say though is that it is told in 3 different point of views, and this allows the story to unfold before and after the death of one of the characters. Readers are able to gain a better understanding into the minds of the victim and those around her, and the author does a SUPERB job with it as it doesn’t get confusing at all. In fact, I think it helps the plot out even more being told this way. Next, the story is a little disturbing (but not in a horrific way where you are bombarded with to gore and blood like you see in horror novels). It is actually disturbing because readers get to know the victim while also understanding her death and what lead up to it. I guess for me, it’s kind of freaky to get to know a character like we do in this one, only to watch the slow downfall of them. FINALLY, this book is a bit twisty. Why? Because readers are going to think they know what happens when in actuality, they don’t. This is probably one of the greatest aspects of the book because the unknown is truly unknown.

Overall, this is a truly fantastic book and I highly recommend it to fellow readers. I know many of my friends/followers are mainly romance lovers, but I am telling you that this book is WORTH the money and the time to dive into even if this is not your typical genre. So please, give it a try if this review and/or synopsis intrigues you. I promise, you will NOTE be disappointed in this finely grafted masterpiece!

Everything You Want Me to Be A Thriller (Audible Audio Edition) Mindy Mejia Caitlin Thorburn John Moraitis Jeff Harding Simon Schuster Audio Books Reviews

So many things to love about this book. Mejia has created a mesmerizing and captivating tale full of emotion, deceit, tragedy and redemption. Strong, well-drawn, flawed and complex characters. Excellent pacing. A compelling mystery that isn't completely revealed until the very end. Finely-crafted suspense. This was a thoroughly enjoyable, compulsively page-turning read. Mejia is a skilled writer, who knows how to unspool a great story. Haunting, memorable, evocative and satisfying. Can easily see this one translated to a movie screen. Highly recommended.
So often, when I read a book that is described as having a plot twist, it is not a surprise for me. I guess it is because I have read these thriller/suspense novels for my entire life and it takes some of the mystery/surprise away.
However, with this book, I was completely surprised at the plot twist in the end. I am not going to give it away and spoil it for future readers, so I'll just say that it is well worth reading this book through to get to the plot twist in the end.
The alternating chapters told from the three character's perspectives was equally intriguing, keeping me reading and wanting to know the outcome.
All in all, very entertaining - a Great Read!
This booked sucked me in from page 1. Was told from 3 different points of view, Hattie, Hattie's English teacher Peter and Sheriff Del. It also jumps back and forth between timelines. Starts off when Hattie is killed and then keeps jumping back in time and then the present until both catch up to each other. I really thought about 50-60% through I knew who killed Hattie. I even told a friend who has read this that I figured it out. Well bet she was chuckling when it turned out I was so wrong LOL
But I love that in a book. I think I have it figured out and then a twist is thrown in that I never saw.

I loved the writing also, very easy to read and I could actually picture what was going on through the eyes of the person the chapter was told through.
And I really felt sad for Hattie, especially at the end when we found out what happened. I mean yeah we knew how she died at the beginning but when we found out what actually happened, I really was sad for her.
And there was another character I was sad for at the very end. Don't want to say who cause I don't want to spoil anything. But the very end of the book actually brought a tear to my eye. Not bad for a mystery book.
I just finished this last night. WOW. This is a cautionary tale about pretending to be something or someone you're not, in order to fit in or make others happy. There's a selfishness in hiding yourself from people, no one wants to deal with their reality so they pretend and cause pain and destruction. Please read.
In a small time in Minnesota, the new English teacher has chosen Macbeth for the senior play. Not something light and entertaining, but the bloody gutty story of ambition, desire, and murder. And as Macbeth plays out, so goes this story. If I am comparing a modern work favorably to a masterpiece of history, you can assume that I think highly of this book and of course you would be right. Best book I have experienced in quite a long time, and I do hope it gets the wide readershi[p that it deserves.

My advice is DON'T READ SYNOPSIS!! with their many spoilers. If you are reading this right now, just go and click on Buy.
